Bones is a healer who escapes after twelve years of imprisonment by raiders, traumatised by her treatment and burdened by guilt over her past. Her freedom is short-lived: rumours of her powers lead to her capture by a crew who take her to the Vault, a mountain stronghold. Despite her instinct to remain guarded, she grows attached to the group and develops feelings for Trey, whose kindness begins to undermine her mistrust. Her hidden past and the enemies hunting her make those relationships dangerous. As a rebellion builds, Bones must confront the tension between keeping others at a distance to protect them and allowing herself to trust and love again, while deciding what is worth fighting for beyond her own survival.
