In 1920, in a small city within a colonial empire, Soraya Matas takes a job as a personal maid to the eccentric Mrs. Hattingh, whose decaying house near Soraya’s Muslim Quarter home is filled with spirits. As Mrs. Hattingh waits for her son to return from London, she offers to help Soraya correspond with her fiancé, Nour, by writing letters on her behalf. Their weekly letter-writing sessions grow increasingly strange, forming an intense bond that blurs boundaries and gradually threatens both women’s mental stability.
