Maggie Byrd has built a seemingly happy life in London, working with fossils and gems at the Natural History Museum and sharing a home with her partner Joe and best friend Harriet. Beneath that stability, she has hidden the guilt and heartbreak that drove her from Australia in her early twenties. Inheriting her beloved uncle's rewilded land in southeast Queensland threatens the distance she has put between herself and her past. The valley was once her refuge as a troubled teenager, and the place where friendship, first love and loyalty gave way to betrayal. Now responsible for the landscape she abandoned, Maggie must confront what happened there and what returning might mean for the people she once loved.
